General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seem like a sprain/pulled ligament, it is very painful and will hurt when you walk. It mostly present with swelling.

Treatment is
1) dip your affected foot in warm water for 10 minutes ever 2 hours to have relief.
2) Take some over the counter medication for pain ibuprofen 400mg is good enough.
3) Take rest as much as possible.
4) Keep the leg elevated by putting a 2 pillows underneath it.
5) I don't think having it relooked will make any difference.

Thanks. Hope it helps.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Simple sprains involving the ankle joint should heal spontaneously with adequate immobilization within 3 weeks.

As your symptoms are still persisiting even after 4 weeks of initial injury, there could be some severe grade injury to the soft tissues like ligaments or tendons or joint capsule.

I suggest you to have an MRI scan of the injured area which will diagnose any soft tissue pathology. The treatment will depend on the diagnosed condition.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
