Infection In Throat, No Relief With Antibiotics, White Mucus Like Substance, Burning Sensation At Back Of Throat.Cure?
Hi Doctor Samuel,
I am very concerned, as what began as an innocent sore throat 5 weeks ago has now become an infection that will not go away. I have been prescribed 3 types of antibiotics: first AMOXICILIN which I was prescribed on my first visit to the doctors 3 weeks after my symptoms occures. This made my voice better but the hairy/sore/itchy feeling in the lower throat/neck didn't subside. I was them prescribed AZITHROMYCIN which seemed to help for the first few days them the symptoms got worse. I returned to the doctors who prescribed me ROXITHROMYCIN. I have been taking this for 2 days now and no change for the better, but more white mucus-like substance at the back of my throat and that burning/hairy sensation lower down.
I am unsure of what to do and very concerned as in a lot of pain.

These all finding suggestive of Pharyngitis that not responding to these three antibiotics. Better to go for Throat swab culture and antibiotic sensitivity and take a combined regime of antibiotics.
