Inflammation On Right Side Of Neck Just Below Skull, Sharp Headaches, Occur During Chest Exercises. Treatment Options?

I am an avid weightlifter and constantly am pushing myself to better my physique. However, I will have times about 8 months apart where the right side of my neck , just below the skull becomes inflammed and I get very sharp headaches that feel like a snake is constricting my head. It happens during chest exercises especially. Also during any arousement.

Hi,

It seems from your history that you have a condition that is related to the parasympathetic system. Since the parasympathetic system is involved in arousal. Also, it is sometimes involved in straining of the neck as the vagus nerve, which is the most important parasympathetic nerve, gets compressed when you lift heavy weights.

You should consult a neurologist or a physiotherapist who will be able to help you with the exercises so that it will relieve the compression.
