Intense Pain In Left Side Of Jaw, Left Ear Pain, Fullness, Difficulty Swallowing. Family History Of TMJ. Cure?
For about a week now I ve had an intense pain in the left side of my jaw that s almost an ache. It s as though I ve been punched in the jaw but can increase in pain. It is extremely painful to swallow and my left ear also hurts as though it s full. I have a family history of TMJ and am a 21 year old female in otherwise good health.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the Jaw could be related to a joint stiffness of the TMJ due to a minor inflammation. Most of the times such minor symptoms can be taken care of with the help of pain killers and oral muscle relaxants.

Hello
There can be many causes. It can be due to TMJ or it can be due to wisdom tooth. If it is TMJ then it can be infection in TMJ or trauma in TMJ. If wisdom tooth is growing but impacted even then you have such symptoms. If wisdom teeth are alread erupted then it can be TMJ problem. For this you have to go to Oral Surgeon who will diagnose the problem and then give the treatment plan. Sometimes doing hot and cold compressions in TMJ area and doing warm saline rinses solves the problem. If it is infection or trauma in TMJ then you have to take meds
Pain in the left side of the jaw, left ear (reffered pain) and difficulty in swallowing can be due to Temporomandibular joint disfunction.
I would suggest you to visit to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and get a checkup done,
Take an OPG radiograph , if you are having any infected tooth get it treated.
Apply moist heat towels over the joint externally, take tab combiflam 500mg for pain relief, in some cases bite splint can be given.
Take semisolid diet, maintain a good oral hygiene.
Relieve stress if any.
Hope this helps out.
Regards..
