Irregular Period, Spotting, Anteflexed Uterus, Fibroid, Dermoid. What Does It Mean?
My cycle have always been irregular, ranging from 40-48 days. This past two cycles I have noticed spotting in between period. Usually starts about a week after my regular period. My result from a ultrasound in early march:
First day of period was 2-17-13 Ultrasound: 3-8-13
** FINDINGS **: Uterus: Anteflexed uterus measures 7.7 x 3.9 x 5.3 cm. Unremarkable without fibroids. Endometrium: 12 mm in thickness. Right adnexa: Mildly prominent 3.8 x 2.3 x 3 cm right ovary with questionable echogenic shadowing areas that may represent fat in a dermoid. Left adnexa: Normal left ovary measures 2.9 x 2.1 x 2.7 cm. Free fluid: Mild pelvic free fluid is likely physiologic. Other: None.
** IMPRESSION **: 1. Asymmetrically prominent 3.8 x 2.3 x 3 cm right ovary with questionable echogenic shadowing areas that may represent fat in a dermoid. Consider followup ultrasound or pelvic MRI for further evaluation. 2. Unremarkable uterus with 12 mm thick endometrial stripe.
The first cycle the spotting only lasted for about 3 days, but this cycle the spotting have been a lot more frequent. On and off for about 2 weeks now. Similar to the first cycle started about a week after cycle. Follow up ultrasound is scheduled for tomorrow 5/1. I am very concern about the bleeding. Please advise. Thank you.
1.Anteflexed uterus is a normal variant in which the uterus is een to bend slightly forwards in ultrasound. 2.No fibroids is a negative finding and normal. 3.Endometrial stripe of 12 mm may be considered normal on certain days of your cycle. 4.Prominent right ovary with ?dermoid, this lesion is fairly small nan a repeat ultrasound would be of help. 5.Clinically increase in spotting needs further investigation. You have not mentioned your age and previous gynaecologic history. Overall, thesituation is not so serious at the monent but follow up ultrasound is essential alongwith pathological tests like PAP smear if clinically suggested.
