Is 2.3 Cm Enlarged Groin Lymph Node Big Enough To Be Taken For Biopsy?

Yes thank you . I have had an ultra sound done of my left leg last week and they found a 4.9cm enlarged groin lymph node. I went back today to get it rechecked an it is about 2.3cm. Is it still big enough to be somewhat worried or big enough for a biopsy? Thank you for your input.

Hi, thank you for writing to HCM.

Normally in a healthy Adult, the lymph nodes are hardly palpable. Though there are many causes for swollen lymph nodes, generally they indicate an infection in their respective territory. But such enlarged lymph nodes usually return to normal size once the infection is controlled with appropriate treatment.

Persistent enlarged lymph nodes (as in your case, with such size) need to be investigated by way of biopsy to rule out any serious underlying cause.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
