Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend has been on the HCG diet and lost 50 lbs. He feels great but he just had a series of blood tests and his PSA was 9. He is 59 and concerned about that high number. He is being tested again in two weeks but I am wondering if there's any connection between the HCG drops and an increase in PSA. Thanks.
HCG or human chorionic gonadotrophin, is a female hormone known to affect other hormones. It is widely known that it may cause an increase in PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen), but not necessarily indicative of cancer. I speak out against this diet constantly, it is effective, but dangerous in many respects. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
