Hi Doc, I m a diabetic and so take insulin injection. In my office i have to take injection in office toilet. I want to know is there any risk if HIV from this? I m worried and paranoid about this? By touching toilet door knobs and then touching the insulin bottle's tip (where we insert injection) with the same hand pose any risk? Plz help me with this ASAP.
Hello Touching the the toilet door knob and with same hand tip of insulin vial and injection . If patient is HIV infected ( toilet door knob ) and touched the door ,this is not a mode transmission of HIV because it is the blood which contains virus . But this is also depend on many factors : Blood from patients with advanced-stage disease. Presence of more virulent strain of virus. Use of antiviral drugs , post exposure . I mentioned all , so that you can easily understand that in your case there is no way of mode of transmission of HIV infection. 2nd point is cervical or vaginal secretions ( female hands ) seminal or semen entrapped hands . But in Vitro HIV can't survive , so this is not a way of transmission of HIV. In my opinion you can't get HIV infection in your needle or on the tip of vial ( insulin ). Hope this will help you. Good luck.
