My husband has been away the past few months with the military. 3 weeks ago I went to see my obgyn about birth control. She gave me Loseasonique. I didn't know when my last period was and I am sometimes irregular. So we decided to start the pill right away so I would have it in my system when my husband came home. Since I have taken the pill I have been lightly bleeding every day. When my husband came home (2 days ago) I didn't feel comfortable with the pill (because of the bleeding) so he wore a condom. Yesterday the condom broke. Now I am really nervous should I take the morning after pill? If so should I continue taking the loseasonique along with the morning after pill?
Hi there, I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.
1 ) First of all do not panic. 2 ) The contraceptive pill that you are taking is a low dose pill. It works best to prevent egg formation and prevent the pregnancy if you start it within first five days of your period. If you are not sure that it was started within first 5 days of the cycle, then I will suggest you to take emergency contraceptive pill, within 24 to 72 hours of unprotected sex act. 3 ) Please take the pills regularly as suggested at a particular time. Usually, these birth control pills are taken as 21 days of regular pills and 7 days off the tablets or 7 days placebo pills.
I hope this answer helps you. Thanks. Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
