Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello my 2 year old nephew was diagnosed with acute Leukemia. He will be hospitalized for 4 weeks. My family is continuously visiting him up to 18 visitors at one time and they are constantly kissing him and sticking their faces in his face. I'm told he has no immune system at this point. He's been in the hospital for 2 weeks. Isn't it putting him at risk allowing all he visitors and the face to face contact?
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
So much of contact should not be allowed. Visitors should be minimised. Asceptic precautions should be taken like washing of hands, changing of outside shoe or usage of shoe cover, not allowing people with cough, cold etc to get into the room etc should be taken.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
