Is Bed Wetting Due To Secondary Enuresis Or Concussion?
My daughter will be 12 next month and still has bed wetting accidents. I believe she is considered secondary enuresis. My mother doesn't think it started until she hit her head years ago and developed a mild concussion. She was released from the hospital shortly after and they said she was fine. I do not know if the concussion plays a part. The concussion happened in October 2006 and she has been bed wetting ever since. I stopped using night time pants almost 2 weeks ago and she has had only 2 accidents. Should I just not give any liquids after 6:30p.m. and wake her up at night to go since she has depended on the night time pants for so long? Or is there possibly a more complex answer.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As per my clinical experience, the secondary enuresis may be from various reasons as:
- Secondary brain changes from concussion of long period
- Structural problems in the urinary system - Neurologic issue with hormone imbalance - Recurrent infections
- Small bladder
- others.
* I recommend a thorough case evaluation with precise history, physical examination and necessary lab tests, radiology work up for the same to diagnose and manage further.
Hope I have answered your query.
