Is Being Diagnosed With Bilateral Mastoiditis In A Child And Being On Antibiotics Serious?
My 10 yr old son was diagnosed with bilateral mastoiditis. He lost concioisnesd briefly at a soccer game. Afyer an abnormal ct scan he had an mri. The mri came back normal except for the madtoiditis. He is on oral antibiotics for 14 days prescribed by a family dr. how serious is this and does he need to see an ENT?
Hello, Mastoid bone can be felt as a bony prominence behind the ear. It has small air pockets. An infection of this bone is fully treatable by antibiotics. If left untreated, it can spread to adjacent areas and may also spread inside the brain. Since the infection has been identified and treatment started, I would suggest a follow up visit to the ENT specialist once antibiotic course is completed. Regards Dr. Sudharsana. S
