I have chronic migraines and have recently tried botox. it cares me to have that much botox injected into my body and for the first 3 weeks I had either a migraine or a headache.. i have been migraine free for about 2 weeks now.. Am I needlessly worrying about the amount of botox used? Thanks

You are never NEEDLESSLY worrying about the amount of BOTOX being used for ANY form of treatment because in fact, there is a BLACK BOX WARNING placed by the FDA specifically to draw attention to the fact that it can be dangerous and even cause death in certain cases. However, as a Neurologist and Headache Specialist who uses BOTOX regularly on chronic migraine patients I can tell you that in the proper hands amounts beyond those of safety margins are never necessary and if you are feeling uncomfortable with the amount being used perhaps, you should discuss this with your doctor. The standard amount used to fully cover a FIXED POINT injection protocol which includes 27-32 injection points around the entire face, head, and neck is mostly in the 155-175 unit range. Certainly, nothing greater than 200u in 1 session for headaches should be necessary for any type of complaint. Frequency of follow-up visits is also typically about 10-12 weeks although some of my patients clearly need sooner appointments but never before 8-10 weeks in worst case scenarios. If your injections are wearing off in faster than 8 weeks then, something's not right with the situation. Please click THANK YOU and write me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi with further questions.
