My husband was in afib his dr did a cardioversion procedure on him and it worked for about a week he was on multac , well he then he was sent to have acardio ablation that after being theraputic on warfin for about 3 1/2 weeks now its been almost a month and a half and now he 's in a flutter and no longer in theraputic levels of warferin , now here's the ? One cardiollgist says lets do another cardioversion now the dr that did his ablation says he needs to havethe cardioversion but believes we should wait til he's in theraputic levels on the warferine for 3 weeks at least before we do the procedure... what do you recommend ?
I recommend that indeed, if a cardioversion is to be attempted, he has to be with a good INR with warfarin for at least 3 weeks prior to cardioversion; it is not uncommon after an atrial fibrillation ablation that is succesful for patients to develop atrial flutter; if after the cardioversion it recurs, then a flutter ablation, if it is a typical flutter, can be considered.
Hope that helps, wish you the best,
