Is Celiac Disease Hereditary?

My nephew was recently diagnosed w cyliacs. His Dr. suggested that any other family members that had any similarities, namely small in stature, history of allergies to animals, pollen and dust, very picky eaters,should be tested for the disease too. What are the odds that it is hereditary? How concerned should I be for my Children?

Hello dear

Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I have evaluated your query in details .

* Celiac disease is hereditary .
* The 1st degree relative ( parent , child , sibling ) has risk of 1 : 10 for
development of celiac disease .

* So evaluation for HLA DQ A1 and HLA DQB1 genes are required .

Wishing you fine recovery .
Feel free to ask any further queries .

Regards .
