Is Co-trimoxazole Needed To Prevent UTI In A Child?
My daughter is 5 years old and weights 15.9kg. She has had a reoccurring uti infection since June. She just finished a 10 day course of Levomax of 5ml morning and night. I took her back to the Doctor for a check up today and he prescribed Co-trimoxazole suspension (1 nightly dose) for the next 3 months as a precaution for e-coli. The ultrasound of her kidneys was normal. Is Co-trimoxazole needed at this time? Is it safe?
Hi, cotrimoxazole is given to prevent recrrent UTI but there should be an evidence for it in urine routine microscopy test, urine culture test or in ultrasound. I suggest you to do urine routine microscopy and culture before starting cotrimoxazole. I hope this has helped you.
