Is Forteo Injection Best Treatment For Osteoporosis?

Following a bone density my primary Dr. Referred me to a rheumatologist who is considering Forteo injections to treat what he has said is severe osteoporosis. The bone density report uses the term osteopenia even "with significant decrease in bone mineral density in the proximal left hip of -11.8." I have fractured my right tibia and fibula (comminuted fracture) 25 years ago at age 46 and fractured right hip 11 years ago. I see the rheumatologist tomorrow and he will have blood work results and 24 hour urine test results. Forteo appears to be risky and is extremely expensive. Recommendations please.

I am not in favor of this medication. There is lot of marketing and it is not as effective as its high cost suggest. I would recommend you following tablet for osteoprosis.
1. calcium and vitamin D3
2. Alendronates
above mentioned drugs are best and cost effective for any osteoporosis.
