Is Getting Heart Palpitaion And Shortness Of Breath A Serious Concern?

I had a pulse of 132 with no chest pain and nausea, doctor gave me fuilds and it lowered to 120 and gave me medication for the nausea... My pulse is back up, times it at 34 beats in 15 seconds, feel my heart beating in my chest. I also have shortness of breath, should I be concerned?

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. The shortness of breath may be caused by the rapid heart rate; how worried you should be depends on the circumstances and the rhythm of the heart; for example if you are dehydrated and have a fast heart rate, it may just be a reflection that you need fluids. On the other hand, there are other abnormal rhythms of the heart that can cause shortness of breath like ventricular tachycardia and that would be more worrisome.

Bottom line: level of concern depends on the circumstances and the rhythm of the heart.

Hope this helps wish you the best,
