Is It Normal To Have Excessive Mucus After Tonsillectomy ?
Hi My son had a tonsillectomy and his adenoids removed and Grommets put in at the end of January. Since then he seems to have had a lot of excessive mucus in his throat quite often trying to clear it with a horrible noise. He also seems to have had a constant chesty cough! Is this normal
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain excessive mucous after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is not an abnormal finding but in case if it is not getting better and there are also other symptoms like chesty cough the these seems to be signs of respiratory tract infection and you should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and after a confirmatory diagnosis he can advise your son antibiotics like Azithromycin, Mucolytics like Acetylcysteine or Ambroxol for loosening of the phlegm and easy removal, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, saline nasal sprays and steam inhalations.. The physician can also remove excessive phlegm or mucous by using suction machine..
Hope this information helps..
