Is It Okay To Take Budecort Puff For A Prolonged Time Period?
HELLO DOCTOR , MY SON IS TAKING BUDECORT PUFF FROM SEPTEMBER 2009. ALMOST 19 MONTHS. IS IT HARMLESS TO HIM OR SHOULD I STOP IT. HE IS NOW 4 YRS.OLD , AND NOW HE HAS HEADACHE ALMOST EVERYDAY,WE HAVE CHECKED HIS EYES AND CONSULTATED FOR MIGRAINE BUT NO EFFECT.PLS HELP
Budesonide is a corticosteroid compound used to treat lung inflammation which is the cause for acute asthmatic attacks. It is used along with bronchial dilators for better effect in acute conditions. Headache is one of the side effects of the corticosteroids. Yet, other conditions should be ruled out to narrow the single etiology as budesonide is the cause for symptom.
If the symptom persists, stop the drug and ask for alternatives or use it as and when required. Discuss with the pulmonologist for alternative therapy, if needed. Budesonide withdrawal should be as tapering method as per doctor's advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
