Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Safe To Have A Orthopedic Surgery After Being Diagnosed With Sinus Issue?
I am scheduled to have orthopaedic surgery on my shoulder Thursday morning. I woke up today with swollen sinuses, a mildly sore throat, a congested nose and I feel like my glands in my throat are beginning to feel sensitive. I am not coughing & rarely in my history does a cold of allergies (not sure what I m suffering from) has it gone into my lungs. Is it safe to proceed or should I postpone? I am 62 years old, weigh 149. I have had 2 arthroscopic knee surgeries and a tonsillectomy. I am in decent health. Do have osteoporosus, psoriasis and high cholesterol. Not using any internal medications.
Your symptoms are suggestive of a light flu. In my opinion, there is no need to postpone your surgery as this mild infection will not interfere with your surgery.
Anyway, a complete blood count and a chest X ray study, will help guide your doctor on the right decision to postpone or not the surgery.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
