Is It Safe To Take Flucloxacillin Capsules For Infection?
Hi,
I have had a persistent problem with ingrown toenails for sometime now. I have gone to the doctors and he has booked an operation on the 12th February to have the entire toenail removed. I have had this done before so I do not mind the operation. I was prescribed Flucloxacillin 500 mg capsules to get rid of the infection. I finished the dosage on the 30th January. I was wondering how long the antibiotics will keep the infection away, i.e. will the Flucloxacillin keep the infection away for the next 10 days until the operation?

Hi,welcome to healthcare magic forum.
Antibiotics are usually given for a course of 5-7 days,and are stopped once the infection is controlled.They need not be continued till your surgery.Once the infection is controlled,only local hygiene is needed to prevent re-infection.You keep the area clean and dry.Avoid frequent watering.
