Is Longer Periods Normal After Insertion Of Mirena?

I have just gotten the Merina inserted with my first period since insertion currently lasting 12days and still going. I know that periods initially can be longer but this is twice as long with the same amount of bleeding I.e. medium to heavy. Is this normal? I had the iud checked 1 week ok and appeared ok.
