HI YOUR MOTHER HAS UNDERGONE MITRAL VALVE REPLACEMENT ,PROBABLY METALLIC VALVE.HENCE SHE REQUIRES BLOOD THINNER CALLED WARFARIN.DOSAGE OF WARFARIN DEPENDS ON BLOOD TEST PT INR WHICH SHOULD BE KEPT BETWEEN 2.5-3.5.ONCE DOSE IS ADJUSTED YOU HAVE TO DO THE TEST AT LEAST EVERY 3 WEEKS.I WILL LIKE TO STRESS UPON YOU THAT LOT OF OTHER MEDICATIONS HAVE INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN.SO WHENEVER YOUR MOTHER REQUIRES ANY OTHER MEDICINE YOU SHOULD DO PT INR TEST AND CONSULT PHYSICIAN TO ADJUST WARFARIN DOSAGE.ALSO YOU SHOULD ALWAYS LOOK FOR BLEEDING TENDENCY WHILE ON WARFARIN. REGARDING YOUR SECOND QUESTION ,LOOKING AT HER LIPID PROFILE I WILL NOT ADVISE TO START ANY MEDICINE FOR CHOLESTEROL HOPE I TRIED TO SOLVE YOUR QUERRY!! THANKS DR PRANAY BUDKULE
