Is Norethisterone A Contraceptive Which Can Control Long Periods?

I was perscribed norethisterone 5mg tablets to help my periods as I stay on for weeks and weeks. I got told by the doctor it was not a contraceptive. Every where I read on the Internet it says it is. Whats right the information on here on the info I got of the doc?

Your doctor is quite correct in asserting that Norethisterone is NOT a contraceptive drug. It is a progestogenic drug used to regulate the menstrual cycle; in some senses, it is like a double-edged sword. It can be used both to stop or start menstrual bleeding depending on the timing of usage. Do learn to trust your doctors. Take care.
