Is Recurrent Ventral Hernia Repair Surgery Possible While Having A Bruised Rib?
I am scheduled for recurrent ventral hernia repair on Monday the 23rd using MAC anesthesia. I fell and bruised a rib a couple of weeks ago but was told that would not be a problem for having the surgery. Would having some congestion mean I should postpone the surgery or can I go ahead with it?
Hi, As this is non-urgent surgery, you should be in the best health possible before under-going the operation. If your congestion is associated with a raised temperature, cough with sputum or any difficulty breathing then you should postpone the surgery. I suggest you discuss with your anesthesiologist who will be able to make the final decision. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
