Hi Dr I am having enlarged varicose veins on my right leg predominantly on calf side. Its paining now and Dr has recommended Diclofenac sodium two tabs each for seven days before proceeding for further treatment. Is surgery the only remedy for Varicose veins? Please help. Regards SKA
Hi, as long as you dont feel complications of the Varicose veins like bleeding, ulcers, dark pigmentation Surgery can be deferred or postponed. But, the definitive treatment would be surgery. It comes in various forms nowadays - like Laser ablation, Radiofrequency ablation and the old Gold standard of open surgery. So, if and when you decide you can choose to pick the lesser invasive options of laser or RFA which are less painless than open surgery. Take care and let me know if I can help you further. Take care. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
