I am 28 weeks pregnant, I have gestational diabetes, which i try to control by dieting....... just has a scan and it shows readings as - BPD -78 mm (30w 4d), HC - 273mm (29w 6d), AC - 225mm (27w 6d), FL - 57mm (29w 6d), humerus - 51mm. I wanted to know does these measurements mean that my babies head is bigger than rest of her body??? Do i need to control my GDM very strictly or use some medicine like insulin for the same. Will my baby be fine??? Can i have a normal vaginal delivery????

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thank you for the query. I have gone through it & realized your concern. The foetal growth can not be exactly proportional ( tailor made), at any given time. Also these readings are indicated in terms of maturity of the particular organ at the time of scan. So please don't worry for increased size of head diameter. Please note one more thing, gestational diabetes is to be managed well ,as it has side effects on baby as well as pregnancy, which can be avoided/control by diet plan & medicines as per need. * A well controlled patient can get a normal delivery. * Reassessment of pregnancy & blood sugar level is important for good results. So be in touch with your gynecologist/endocrinologist & follow the instructions given strictly. Wish you all the best, Thanks,
