Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my cholesterol checked recently and it was 199-total cholesterol. The HDL waas 62 and the LDL was 124. I am a 53 years-female and the results said that my level is in the target range. Does target mean that it is in the good range or that it is boarderline?
Dear Madam Thanks for your query to us. The exact interpretation of cholesterol levels is dependent upon in clinical profile. However in the absence of proven heart disease, stroke and diabetes these levels are good and very much acceptable. However in presence of the diseases mentioned above the LDL levels should be less than 70 mg% which requires statin therapy. If you have any of above diseases , do consult your doctor. Sincerely Sukhvinder
