Is The Hearing Loss Reversible? Why Is Her BP Elevated?
My 20 year old former 27 week preemie daughter had a PICC line placed in her R arm Oct. 28 after hardware was removed from her foot. The PICC line had to be replaced around Nov 28 as it would not flush. It was removed Dec 8. She got Rocephin and Vancomycin. Her levels ran very high a couple times and her Creatinine was elevated. Now she has hearing loss and her BP was 148/92 with several repeated readings. Is the hearing loss reversible? And why is her BP elevated?
Vancomycin has though rare complication of damaging kidneys and hearing cells. Probably she has got this effect of Vancomycin. The parts already daamaged cannot be regained back in hearing apparatus, but avoiding further use of ototoxic drugs may preserve residual cells from further damage. And its due to kidney interstitial cell injury, her BP is raised.
