Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is The Lower Back Pain Side Effect Of Medication Zarontin 500mg?
My daughter has been taking 500mg of Zarontin for the last year, recently (for a month) she has been complaining of lower back pain. She has asked for Aleve or Motrin for the pain. I am taking her to her doctor this week. Do you think this is a side effect of her medication?
Zarontin (ethosuximide) does not cause lower back pain as it's side effect. It is highly unlikely that Zarontin would have caused lower back pain in your daughter. I would probably recommend my patient a thorough evaluation of the lower back pain to look for other reasons. Apart from medications for pain, maintaining good posture and core muscle strengthening exercises goes a long way in addressing lower back pain. Contact your physiotherapist for more information. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healhtcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
