Hi, I am 71 years of age and am postmenopausal, my primary care doctor has prescribed Premarin 0.625 for my sudden sweating and hot flashes, very recent. I was not given estrogen during my menopausal days so do you think it is safe to take hormones at my age? I am afraid of cancer.
Estrogen treatment at this age can increase the risk of breast cancers as Breast cancers are estrogen sensitive.
If you are at risk of breast cancer, like a family history of breast cancer, it is advisable not to take estrogen. If not you have to weigh the benefits and risk and opt for or against it.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.
