Leg Injury, Deep, Redness, Turned Green, Infected. Used Antiseptic. Help?
Hello!
I cut my leg about a week ago, it was pretty deep but only little. I didn't think anything of it u til I noticed it was redder and also the area around it is a bit swollen. I put antiseptic cream on it and covered it with a plaster, but the next day when I took the plaster off it all looked a bit 'oozy' and the colour of the inside of the plaster was green...so yes, it sounds infected, but its absolutely tiny, can this be treated at home?
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Andy Fine's Response
hello friend, it sounds like you have gotten what we call in medical terms cellulitis which is infection of the soft tissue requiring antibiotics. Sometimes it will improve on its own with your natural defenses healing the wound, but if the redness persists or spread to then you certainly need antibiotics from a physician. since your symptoms have been going on for a week now and it is still red, odds are that it will not heal on its own and it does need antibiotics. Have a great day.
