Lingering Cough With Body Aches, Pulled Muscles After Recovering From Upper Respiratory Virus. Reason ?
I have recently had a upper respiratory virus which I got over about 5/6 weeks ago. I have had a lingering cough since with upper body aches like pulled muscles( shoulder and back pain) however the upper body pain has really followed since constantly coughing hard. The cough I have now really stems from wanting to clear my throat as it feels like mucus is dripping down my throat. My wife and daughter have the virus now and have had it for approximately 3 weeks now. I am just wondering if these are common symptoms following a virus. Thanks
Hi, The symptoms of your illness that you describe do follow the common pattern. The effects of the virus can linger and the associated coughing can result in painful muscle strains. The management of the illness is to treat any symptoms. Therefore, drink plenty to keep well hydrated and take paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain. Steam inhalations may help loosen secretions and make it easier to cough. Rest as much as possible and maintain a healthy diet. Best regards.
