Lower Left Pain. CT Scan Done. What Does Result Mean?

Good DaY! I am Melissa, 31 years of age. I was suffering from my lower left pain and i already undergo my KUB ultrasound and CT Stonogram... The result is normal for my kidney stones but in my CT Stonogram, is says that: There is a 2.5 x 2.0 cm hypodense focus in the right adnexal region. Phleboliths are ssen in the pelvic region. consider an ovarian cyst. What does it mean? I'm just wondering why my lower left back pain not my right. Please advise. Thanks

Hi ! Good evening. i am Dr Shareef answering your query.

With the history and sonographic findings , it seems that the right sided ovarian cyst is an coincidental finding while investigating for the pain on left side back pain. Even though it is coincidental finding , but it is good that it has come to your notice, and your gynaecologist will decide on the management may be after further investigations. The left sided back pain may not be related to the right sided ovarian cyst, and could be an independent entity due to some kind of muscle spasm or due to the wrong posture of the spine. If I would have been treating you, after this investigation, I would advise you with some anti inflammatory drug for your back pain, and if it is not relieved, then I may consider for an MRI spine for you. This will also help in an approximate idea about the nature of the ovarian cyst for further management.

I hope this information will help you out in discussing with your doctors about your problem.

Thanks for choosing the healthcaremagic forum for your health issues. I wish you an early recovery. Good luck.

Radiologist Dr. Eric Norman Brua's  Response
hello mellisa,

your left back pain is not directly related to the findings in ct stonogram.
ovarian cyst is a totally different disease entity and it is noted in the opposite side, so it should not be the cause of pain. however, as far as ct stonogram is concerned, there is nothing in the kidneys and portions of the urinary tract that causes the pain in the back. it could be muscular in nature. best option for this type of pain is an MRI.
thank you.
