MRI Report Shows Broad Based Disc Osteophyte Complex With Canal Stenosis, Bilateral Foraminal Narrowing In C6-7, Broad Base Bulge In C5-6. What Does This Mean?
I just received my MRI report and was wondering what does this mean: he and will it require surgery? I am 49 years old male, and been dealing with the pain in my neck, shoulders and right arm for months. The med don t seem to work, which has hindered me from going to work now going on two weeks. * At C6-7, there is a broad based disc osteophyte complex with borderline canal stenosis and moderate bilateral foraminal narrowing *At C5-6, there is broad base bulge with borderline canal stenosis and moderate bilateral foraminal narrowing.
Hi, Thanks for using healthcaremagic. Your MRI shows that you are having problem at C5-6 level which is causing compression on your nerves and it is causing pain in your neck, shoulders and arm. As there is moderate narrowing it might require a small surgery in which they remove the disc and hence compression is released and you will be free of pain. In mild cases and some cases of moderate narrowing, physiotherapy helps. You have to consult a neurosurgeon/orthopedic who will see the MRI and advise whether a surgery is required or not. Hope it sorts your problem and wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards,
