Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
dear doctor my son is 52 days old, he is having fever and cough since two days and yesterday he passed a stool having small blood whereas afterwords it became normal. i am away from my family hospital and at a remote place, here a doctor has advised an anti-biotic course for three days, today i got him vaccinated for DTP, Hep-B and Hib as well and he is having fever because of it. please advise next action.
Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. Your child needs treatment with antibiotics. I would have preferred a five day course rather than a three day course. It would have been better if I could know the exact antibiotic being given and could comment accordingly. The fever could be due to the DTP vaccine and you need not worry at the moment. The abdomen of the child needs to be examined and your doctor should have already done it. So let me not worry about it. He might be given ORS so that the fluid and salt balance of his body is retained. Breast feeding should be continued. In case of a breast fed baby continuing breast feeding is better than ORS. A normal frequency of passing urine would indicate that the hydration is ok. No more interventions required at the moment. Review must be done after completing the course of antibiotic.
Hope that helps. Feel free to revert back in case of further queries if any.
