Dear Jaibir, Thanks for the question, from the description of your wife's symptoms it appears that she as well as her siblings suffer from night blindness. The commonest cause for this is deficiency of Vitamin A but other causes, especially when it runs in the family, like retinitis pigmentosa needs to be excluded by examination of the retina by an ophthalmoscope. Vitamin A deficiency in childhood can be treated by Supplimentary doses of Vitamin A but unfortunately retinitis pigmentosa has no known cure.

Hey this is night blindness, nyctalopia is the inability to see well at night or in poor light. It is not a disorder in itself, but rather a symptom of an underlying disorder or problem, especially untreated myopia (nearsightedness). There are many causes and most common is Vitamin A deficiency.
