My adult son has a nasal perforation which occurred during deviated septum repair in July. It is close to 2 centimeters. He has recurring sinus pressure, nasal discharge and diffulty sleeping. Should we seek another opinion from an ENT or see a plastic surgeon for repair. Current ENT says not to worry as hole will heal over. He continues to be sick and on Zpack. Thnx

Hello I am Dr Ravinder Sharma ENT surgeon
Septal perforation is a complication of septal surgery. If the size of perforation is small it may require no intervention. Patient may have problem of crusting in nose which can be taken care by liquid paraffin nose drops (as and when required). You may consider repair as this will decrease problem of crusting . It depends on the expertise of the surgeon as this is not a common surgery so only a few ENT surgeons or plastic surgeons are be doing this surgery.
The options are
Surgical repair with flap
Use of sialistic buttons
I hope this answers your concern. Feel free to contact me for more info
