Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doc. I have this problem in the past 3 days now. I cant hardly eat and drink due to this liquid stool. I always have this grumbling in my stomach that always makes me go into the toilet seat. The doctor says i may have a stomach virus but i want to know exactly what it is and how will i deal with it? Thanks
Hi. Thanks for the query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Inability to eat or drink due to rumbling in the stomach and liquid stools for the last three days can be due to infection, either viral or bacterial. The treatment is almost identical in both the cases except for the role of antibiotic active against intestinal bacterial infection if there is an evidence of bacterial infection as found out by tests of stool and blood. Hence get the tests of blood, stool and urine, along with ultrasound of the abdomen. Get started on probiotics, activated charcoal and multivitamins. Boiled and cooled water. Home-made fresh food devoid of fried and spicy foods. Maintain water and electrolyte balance by taking plenty of fluids and electrolyte solution as suggested by your Doctor after clinical evaluation and examination.
