Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. M Agarwal's Response
Hello. welcome to HCM.
Pain at post-operative site may persist for years and is mostly inconsistent (off and on). It can be due to
1.adhesions and bands occurring after surgery and hernia repair
2. Infection at the site (less likely to persist and manifest only as pain over 2 years)
3. It need not be due to any organic cause.
However, if it is constant or is accompanied by redness, or discharge or swelling, it needs immediate attention. It is better to visit your clinician once more and tell him about your problem so that he can evaluate you accordingly and get investigations as to the cause of pain.
