Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Pain And Swelling In The Ankle After A Fall. Had A Popping Sound. No Bruise. Sprain?
a couple of hours a go I was in the grocery store and fell. My ankle turned inward and I felt a pop. The outer right side of my foot hurts to the touch and my foot is a little swollen. It hurts sooooo bad to try and walk on it. I have sprained the ankle on the other foot in the past and it didn't hurt near as bad as this does. Odd thing is there is no bruising. When I put any weight on it the bottom and top of my foot hurts tremendously. I can hardly wiggle my toes. Does this sound like a sprain to you?
I have read your complete question. It looks that you had injury. After going through your details it looks that there is may be sprain at outer aspect of ankle. Most commonly there is sprain of anterior talo febular ligament, which is present at outer aspect of ankle.
I will advice you following to have relief in this-
-At least have a x ray of your ankle to rule out a minor fracture. It is very difficult to differentiate between a minor fracture & a sprain on clinical examination.
-Take rest, apply a soft ace bandage from below upwards at your foot & leg.
-Apply ice over the affected part.Do not apply it directly, cover it in a wrap then apply over affected part.
-Keep your limb elevated over a pillow.
Hope this all will help you.
With best wishes.
