Pain In Lower Abdomen, No Relief On Passing Stools, Nausea. Treatment Options?

I have this feeling in my lower abdomen like I have to either poop or throw up. I poop, but I don t feel any relief, and if I do, it is only for a little while. I am usually a very active person, but today when I went to the gym, I was only able to run a little less than 1.5 miles before I felt like I had to throw up. So I stopped, and I thought I just overdid, or did it to fast, but the feeling didn t go away, and I didn t start going again.

Hello, 7griffos,
Your symtoms are suggestive of "Spastic colon" or Irritable Bowel
Syndrome. Feeling of incomplete evacuation, bloting and gas are
all suggestive of this problem. When there is build up of gas this
can make you nauseated and even bring on vomiting. Excercise
should help movement of the gas in the intestine and give you
the feeling to go to the bathroom.
If you have had these symptoms for more than six months, you
should really try to get on a regimen of high fiber diet, drink plenty
of fluids and continue excercises.
Whole grain ,fresh vegetables and fruits are very helpful.
I also want you to look into an over the counter product called
"Digestive Advantage-Irritable Bowel ". Start taking one tablet
everyday with a glass of water. This helps to regulate your system.
If you are also having some acidity problem , taking an over the
counter Omeprazole (Prilosec-OTC) 20 mg/day about one hour before
your main meal of the day will be very helpful.
Hope this helps you .
I wish you well.

General Surgeon Dr. Grzegorz Stanko's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Pain in lower abdominal may be caused by urinary tract infections, urinary tract stones, ovarian infection, ovarian cyst, pregnancy, appendicitis (lower right abdominal area), diverticulitis (lower left abdominal area).
If your symptoms are associated with burning when urinating, frequent urinating, pain radiating to the back or groin, fever, the most probable reason of your symptoms are urinary tract infection/stones.
If your pain is located in the right abdominal area, the pain aggravates when walking, body temperature is slightly elevated, the pulse is above 100/min, appendicitis is very probable.
To make sure what is wrong, you should have abdominal ultrasound, fool blood work with liver and pancreas tests, urine analysis, pregnancy test and transvaginal ultrasound. Depending of the results of this tests some other might be necessary (like colonoscopy).
As some of this diseases are urgent, you should not wait anymore and visit your doctor.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
