Pain In Lower Back. CT Scan Revealed Benign Bone. Explain?
I have a sudden onset of sharp pain in my left lower back, my left flank area, and I had a kub and ct scan to rule out kidney stone . CT report shows a benign bone island left iliac crest but it also says in the report that the bone island is a little larger than on 9/24/10 ( when I had a previous CT scan) Do bone island grow larger? And why am I having pain with this? No kidney stone found..
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The bone islands are mostly composed a benign bone growths like osteoma. In some cases, active growth in the area is seen associated with pain. In such cases, infection, inflammation and malignancy should be ruled out.
