Pain In The Back & Lower Ribs After Taking Penicillin For Nerve Infection In A Dental Nerve Which Is Little Relieved By Aleve.
I recently had a toothache but my dentist said it appeared to be an infection in the nerve and I was treated with penicillin for 7 days. During this time I got a cold and was very congested and ultimately coughed very hard. I then started having pain around my right lower ribs and it traveled to my back. This has all happened in the past 2-1/2 weeks. My cold is almost gone, my cough is lessening, but the pain around my right ribs and back is the same. I do not feel ill. I'm taking Aleve but it only dulls the pain.
with you clinical presentation there are to possibility that may cause chest and ba k pain.
The first possibility is chest infection and severe cough. I would advice my patient to have a chest X ray done to rule out pneumonia. Rest, paracetamol and bronchodilators will help in reducing the cough and pain. Higher antibiotics may be needed in the presence of infection.
Secondly gastritis is the other possibility. It may be due to diet, stress or drug. Oil and spice less food is advised. Omeprazol is advised for at least 2 weeks.
