Passed Out While Jogging. Diagnosed Several Gaps In Heartbeat While Asleep By 48 Hour Holter Monitor. History Of Alcohol Consumption And Working Near The Place Of Blasts. Implications?
Hi, I am a 32 y/o male OIF veteran who works out regularly (6-7 days/week), drinks alcohol regularly (3-5 drinks/night) and recently passed out while jogging. CT, MRI, blood work (lyme disease, etc) all came back clean. I did a 48 hour holter monitor where it was reported I had several 'gaps' in my heartbeat while asleep. I am 68" and 162 lbs. What might the causes and implications be? Would either the alcohol or 2+ years in Iraq (near several blasts, but not injured other than minor hearing loss) be a (contributing) factor?
Dear Sir Thanks for your query to HCmagic. For how long you remain unconscious? Did you pass urine/stool or bite your tongue at that time? These are important to differentiate between a seizure and a syncope. Gaps in heartbeat is a layman's term and can have several meanings. Most of the gaps in heart beat are common and non-serious entities, present in 2/3rd of population. Only a few types of gap are serious. What variety/type was it in your case? Please write details so that i can describe more about the causes and implications. One more thing, if you had an ECHO too? What was its result? Feel free to write further. sincerely sukhvinder singh
Certainly u could have had an abnormal arrhythmia during jogging.
The contributing factor may be alcoholism .
It is associated with atrial fibrillation which can present as loss of consciousness ..
Your hearing problem may not be the causing this because if it is due to the problem with your middle ear. U will feel giddy rather than passing out..
Any queries let me know..
Thank u
