Hello Doctor, I have been on anti biotics ( bactrim DS & Erythrocin ) for 4 weeks. In the first week itself i developed Penile thrush. I also had Rapaflo for 2 weeks for relaxing my pelvic muscles. All the time I have using anti fungal cream for penile thrush and scrotal burning and drinking probiotics kefir drink to get back my good bacteria. i also had Ultra sound of my testicles, pelvic & kidney . The results are normal. My problem is my groin area around testacles swell when I apply anti funagal cream. After I clean the area with water the swelling decreases and the testacles look ok. i dont have any pain but the temporary swelling concernes me? please advice?
Hi, the penile thrush, you are telling is an allergic reaction to the sulfa drugs, and as you have continued it the allergy has increased. you should immediately stop the bactrim DS tablets. I to my patients with such symptoms prescribe, levocitrizine, betamethasone, ofloxacin, and topical application of the steroid. Thank you.
Hi, Welcome to HCM. You had not mentioned your age, sexual activity and about whether you are having Diabetes. These are having relevance to your problem. Prolonged antimicrobials like Erythromycin and Cotrimoxazole may likely to precipitate a relapse of a thrush infection.
Along with topical applications you may have to take oral anti-fungal antibiotics also for an extended period of 3 weeks for a total eradication of the infection. Your sex partners also to be treated. A change of drug may help you to alleviate the problem of your scrotal swelling following the application. Powder form also may be tried with the guidance of your physician. Get well soon. Dr S.Murugan
