Pregnant. Diagnosed With Severe Asymptomatic Aortic Stenosis With Bicuspid Valve. Is It Safe?
My wife has been diagnosed with severe asymptomatic aortic stenosis with bicuspid valve. And she is currently 21 weeks pregnant. The doctor says it is ok for her to continue with her pregnancy with close monitoring and regular check ups, and the need for surgery can be assessed post delivery. Her valve area is 0.7 right now and she was diagnosed with this problem only after she got pregnant. Please advice if its a safe approach?
As long as she is asymptomatic at present, you can continue the pregnancy with regular monitoring and check up. You need to be advised of the possible symptoms and watch out for them. If the pregnancy isnt causing any stress on her heart its safe to continue.
