My son went for DMSA yesterday and I am pregnant. i was there for the whole test. Medical staff assured me that I am in no danger. I cath my son every 3 hours. Medical staff advised me to make sure to wash my hands and wear gloves. Is my unborn child really safe and how long does it take for the radio-active medication to be out of my son s system?
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The radioactive medicine that your son is having is not likely to affect your unborn baby. It is likely to remain in his system for a week. You need not worry and can look after him after wearing the gloves.
