Pregnant. Foul Taste From Teeth After Getting It Cleaned. Solution?
I am currently 5 months pregnant. I have my teeth cleaned yesterday and for the past week or so I have been experiencing a foul taste coming from between two of my back teeth. The dentist did not say anything about it yesterday. The taste is terrible and when I floss between those two teeth it smells awful. What do I do?
Since you are pregnant, your gums will be tender, soft causing gingivitis.
So the abscess has to be diagnosed and curetted.
Decayed teeth can be restored.
If your wisdom teeth are erupting ,and pus drains from the site, you have to wait till your delivery as tooth extraction is contra-indicated at this time.
Take warm saline betadine rinse for temporary relief.
hi ,
in pregnancy halitosis( foul smell) is a common problem. BECAUSE:
1. due to increased acidity which leads to nausia.
2. there are hormonal changes which leads to pregnancy induced gingivitis and sometimes pocket formation, which causes food lodgement in it and hence foul smell.
3. there might be third molar mal- allignment which may lead to food lodgement.
treatment:
1. drink lots of water to reduce acidity if any. you make take some antacids like rabeprazole.
2. always do mouth wash containing 0 .2% chlorhexidine and zinc chloride after brushing and flossing your teeth in morning and before sleep.
3. make sure you dont eat raw onions and garlic at night time.
4. finally warm saline rinses after every meal.
Your clinical history and symptoms suggest that , you have developed abscess in between your last two teeth, this is probably due to the hormonal changes in the pregnancy .
Foul small is due to the pus and abscess, there is probably inflammation and pocket formation.
You need a symptomatic treatment for maintaining gum health.
Go for curettage of the respective area and complete mouth scaling and polishing.
Mouth rinsing with lukewarm saline and antiseptic solution helps in giving soothing effect.

Fowl taste in the mouth indicates you have developed abscess in your teeth which may be caused by dental infection or this is probably due to the hormonal changes in the pregnancy .
In pregnancy it is common to get gingival infection like gingivitis and gingival abscess which is caused due to changed pattern of harmones, increased salivation and bacterial infection.
Maintain good oral hygiene by regular tooth brushing and flossing to prevent gingivitis.
use lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouth rinse like chlorhexidine or betadine for oral rinsing which gives soothing effect .
i hope this helps ,
take care.
